Urgent Care
Urgent & Same-Day Vet Care in Oakville
When your dog or cat is suddenly sick or hurt, waiting days for an appointment is not an option. Speers Road Animal Hospital offers same-day visits for urgent problems during open hours. Call (905) 845-0300 and we will tell you how soon to come in.
Speers Road Animal Hospital is not a 24-hour emergency hospital. If your pet collapses, is struggling to breathe, is bleeding heavily, has been hit by a car, or is having repeated seizures, go straight to Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital, 2285 Bristol Circle, Oakville, ON L6H 6P8, (905) 829-9444.
Please call before you set out. A short conversation lets us judge how urgent the problem is, get the team ready for your pet, and tell you if your pet would be safer going straight to a 24-hour emergency hospital.
When to Call Us for a Same-Day Visit
- Repeated vomiting or diarrhea, blood in either, or not eating for more than a day
- Sudden limping, yelping, or pain when touched
- A cut, bite, or wound that may need cleaning or stitches
- Eating something they should not have, such as a toy, bone, medication, or food that is toxic to pets. Call right away, even if your pet seems fine
- Straining to urinate, peeing small amounts often, or blood in the urine. A male cat straining with little or no urine is an emergency, so call immediately
- Red or swollen eyes, head shaking or painful ears, or sudden itching and hot spots
- Facial swelling or hives after an insect sting or vaccine. Go to the emergency hospital if breathing is affected
- Low energy, hiding, or a pet that is suddenly not acting like themselves

What to Do if Your Pet Needs Help Now
Call us first.
Phone (905) 845-0300. A call is faster than an online form when your pet is unwell, and it lets us tell you how soon to come in.
Tell us what is happening.
Describe the main symptoms and when they started, and whether your pet is eating, drinking, breathing normally, and able to walk. Mention any medications or recent surgery.
Do not give human medicine.
Many pain relievers and other medicines made for people are toxic to dogs and cats. Do not try to make your pet vomit unless a veterinarian tells you to.
Bring what helps.
Bring your pet on a leash or in a carrier, a list of their medications, and the packaging of anything they may have eaten.
